Beginning this past fall, Duncan has participated in Hamilton's Name That Book program. The program is designed to encourage kids grades 3 - 5 to read a variety of books. The students are provided with a list of 100 books and are encouraged to read as many as possible. The program culminates with a series of contests to celebrate the students’ knowledge of the books.Today was the kids' first contest and Duncan's team came in 5th out of 12 teams. While they finished respectfully within the batch of Hamilton Elementary teams, I don't think they did well enough to go onto compete against other Cy Fair ISD schools.
For us, though, that point is almost completely irrelevant. Duncan has had a ball participating in this program and really has kicked up the reading a few notches. For him, there's nothing like a little competition to jump start a life long love of reading.
