Japanese Festival

Ella's class at Longwood Montessori has spent the summer learning about Japan. To top off the summer's studies, they held a Japanese Festival, where the kids got to show off what they had learned over the summer.

Ella took us on a tour of the classroom and the lunchroom, where many projects and Japanese foods were displayed. Above and below, Ella is showing us how to draw the Kanji symbols for fire and water (and note she is also sporting a kimono).

After teaching us about Japanese language (in five minutes or less), she took us to the lunchroom, where we tried several different types of Japanese food. I honestly don't know what all of it was, but I was glad to see that Ella had really taken to both the edamame and sushi. Both of those should be relatively easy to duplicate at home.

This summer's studies have been a blast for Ella. She really learned a lot. It will be bittersweet for her to leave that school. It's hard to believe that she's been there since she was just an infant. Only two more weeks to go before she'll be an official kindergartener!
