Anne, Joanna, Duncan and I (with Ella Peyton in tow) did our first Capitol 10,000 race this year. I say it was a first for Joanna, but not really. She's a bit of a veteran when it comes to these races. For the rest of us, though, it was a first. It was a HUGE event, bringing in over 20,000 people. Participants ranged from the serious to the silly. Ella Peyton and Duncan both got a big kick seeing runners dressed up as Spider Man, ballerinas and various forms of fruit. There were also numerous bands sprinkled throughout the route, so rarely did you go more than 4 - 6 blocks without some kind of musical entertainment. It was great.
Joanna and Duncan ran a good bit of the race. Her estimate was that they probably averaged a 12 minute mile. Anne and I walked it, with Ella riding her chariot (aka stroller) for all but the final mile.
It was a gorgeous day to go and a fun event. Duncan and Ella are already looking forward to doing it again next year.
