@#!*% Fire Ants

You know, I was raised to believe that every creature on this earth serves a higher purpose of some kind. We may not know exactly what that purpose is, but every animal serves a purpose and has a place in the environment. However, I'm not sure I believe that any more when it comes to fire ants. Some days, like today, I think their sole purpose is to bite my kids.

Fortunately (if you can think of it that way), their child of choice was Ella. The school called this morning to report that Ella had nearly 25 fire ant bites on her legs. Not knowing if she'd react to them like her brother does, we brought her home so we could keep an eye on her.

She seems to be doing just fine. In fact, I don't think she's really skipped a beat. As soon as we gave her some benadryl and cortaid, she went straight to get her "birthday dress" (every dress-up dress these days is referred to a birthday dress).
She's such a trooper!

We went through the same thing with Grace. There was much hand-wringing on my part, but she was fine. I HATE fire ants. It doesn't matter the time of day or the season they find me and bite me.
