Quest Fair

River Ridge Elementary held their annual Quest Fair today. As participants in the Quest Program, both Duncan and Ella Peyton had projects to display. Duncan's Quest class displayed projects from their independent study projects this spring, where students study a problem or issue in depth, take notes, analyze data, evaluate or state a solution to the problem, create visual aides, produce a synthesized product, and present it all using a creative format.

As you can tell from the pictures below, Duncan chose to research Tsnuamis and their effects.

As part of his project, Duncan decided to design an invention to help mitigate the effects of a tsunami. As Duncan explains it in his lego model above, there is a device that detects the seismic activity and then triggers a wall to rise from the ocean floor, blocking the waves and keeping them from reaching land.

As kindergarteners are not tested until the spring, Ella Peyton was a newcomer to Quest. In the few weeks they've had together, her Quest class has focused on bugs, their characteristics and habitats.  As part of their projects, they created bugs of their choosing, real or imaginary, created traits for the bugs and designed their habitats.

Love, love, love Buttercup's special talent. No idea where this girl gets this stuff.
