The name of the game so far today has been "waiting". We've been monitoring the news, hanging out with neighbors and generally trying to keep ourselves busy until Ike gets here.The pictures on the news of Galveston have been impressive. Galveston Island is getting pounded with storm surge and as a result, will probably suffer a pretty significant loss before all is said and done with this storm.
You would never know all of that is going on down there based on what is happening here. It's been cloudy off and on (the sun is shining right now) and there is relatively no wind to speak of. It's pretty deceptive, really. We know that will all change before the day is out, but it still amazes me how different the weather can be between here and there. Wouldn't it be great if we could say that again at this time tomorrow? We're hopeful, but in the spirit of being realistic, not holding our breath.
