Preparing for Ike

Like most of the folks in Houston right now, we're running around making last minute preparations for Ike. Ike has again shifted closer to Houston and there are mandatory evacuations in areas closer to the coast (Freeport, Galveston Island, etc.). Local government officials have urged folks that are not in mandatory evacuation areas to stay put and ride out the storm in their homes, and that's what we're planning on doing. The logic from their perspective is that if everyone jumps in their cars and leaves, the roads will get clogged and very few people will be able to get out in a timely and safe manner.

The whole process is pretty unnerving, frankly. It's extremely stressful and worrisome. And, as I've mentioned before, Jeffrey and I are getting really sick of it.

The kids, on the other hand, are pretty thrilled right about now since they won't have school tomorrow. Not sure they will feel the same way once the power goes out and the Wii doesn't work anymore!

If the home phone goes out in the next day or so, our cell phones are charged and we plan to leave them on over the weekend. Feel free to give us a call if you want to check in.

I've been watching the weather channel and thinking about you guys. Hope you weather the storm without any damage.
