We made it through the hurricane ok. It was horrible and frightening (at least from my perspective) and I think it's pretty safe to say that I intend to never ride another one of those things out again, regardless of what city officials ask us to do.
The house sustained very little damage - only lost a few shingles - especially compared to the other folks in our neighborhood. A couple of our neighbors had problems with holes in their roofs and there were a slew of trees down and fences missing everywhere.
Once the rain subsided yesterday, I took the kids to my parents' house in Austin. We had expected to be without power, but not without water. It's one thing to be without the Wii and another altogether to not be able to flush the toilet. That's where I officially drew the line!
Jeff decided to stay behind to keep an eye on things. Last he relayed, we do have water again, but no power still. There are a few places around the neighborhood - like McDonalds of all places - that do have power. Hopefully that's a sign that ours will come back on sooner rather than later.
More to come later including pictures of the aftermath. Thanks to everyone for the phone calls. We appreciate everyone checking in on us. We were truly very fortunate.
