Hamilton Elementary started a chess club this past week and Duncan is one of its first members.He was so excited to join. In fact, they only opened it up to 30 kids (the first 30 that turned in their forms were in) and he was so concerned about getting in, he asked me to drive him to school the morning after they announced it so he could be one of the first to turn in his paperwork. Talk about determination!
They had their first meeting this past Thursday and he absolutely loved it. Looks like they'll be doing a mix of teaching the kids, letting them do some freeplay, and at the end of the year, entering some competitions.
I love that he's interested in playing this game. There's so much he'll be able to learn from this even above and beyond the strategy it teaches. Too bad they don't have a chess club for parents. Maybe Duncan could teach me what he learns?!?
