While visiting with the ENT yesterday, we found out that Duncan will need to have his tonsils removed. They are apparently, and I quote, "Gigantor" in size and asymmetrical to boot. In fact, his right tonsil is about 3 - 4 times the size of the left.
His surgery is scheduled for December 3rd, which is essentially the first Friday we could do it if we followed all of the ENT's rules - i.e. no travel or sports events for 2 weeks after the surgery.
Duncan is so excited by the drama he can hardly stand it. He's translating the upcoming experience as a whole week out of school and ice cream until he's made it through all 31 flavors. It would be great if he could maintain the positive attitude throughout the entire experience, but I suspect he won't be so hot on the whole thing once he's on the other side of it. We'll see...

At his age he'll probably rock the surgery. I had it at 22 and remember waking up in the recovery room, and across the room was a 6yo girl who was TALKING to her parents after having the operation just before me.
I had to write on a notepad for a couple days and didn't eat food for a week. I'm pretty sure I heard the girl ask her parents for a hamburger.
Ah, youth...
We'll be thinking about Duncan in December!
Hey Michael! Thanks!
I hope you're right! I had mine taken out as an adult too, and my experience was similar to yours.
His ENT said he's at the age where he's right on the cusp of it being more like the adult experience, but it's hard to keep that boy down, so hopefully he'll be up and running shortly afterwards.
